Micro Scalextric Micro Scalextric analogue cars are 1/64 (HO) scale - a quarter of the size of regular Scalextric. The cars are sturdy and have very good roadholding thanks to their strong magnets, and are an ideal introduction to slot car racing for 3-7 year olds. Many other brands of 1:64 scale slot cars, such as Tomy, AFX, Aurora, Tyco etc. (many now out of production but still available on eBay), will run on Scalextric Micro track. Modern sets such as "Power Champions" (new for 2010) can make 15 different layouts (shown right) using mainly straights and a standard radius of curve.

Remember if you have a basic Micro set and want to extend it, a cost-effective way of doing so is... to buy another set. This will give you extra cars, track, and some spare controllers (which can get broken and are hard to obtain separately), all cheaper than buying items individually. Spare parts for Micro Scalextric Replacement tyres, braids, and guide pins are supplied with each boxed car or set. If you need more, they are not sold individually (except braids, see the main spares page) - for the sake of around a tenner you can just buy a new car. If you buy a new car or set please remember to keep the spares that come with it in a safe place. To replace braids, gently lever off the retaining clip at the front of the car's underside with a small flat screwdriver or equivalent. The braids are usually folded back on themselves. You may be able to get some more life out of old braids by turning them around. Otherwise just slide off the old ones and slide on the replacements (you may need to adjust braid length), then press the braid holder back on to the car. There is a pictorial maintenance guide here (PDF) - as supplied in sets.

There are no track fixing clips for Micro Scalextric. People who want to fix their Micro track to a baseboard usually do so with adhesive or small screws. For performance tips, improving handling, grip and so on, see the maintenance links in the margin as much of the same information (e.g. sanding of tyres and lubrication) applies to both Micro and regular Scalextric.
